(20/02/11) Unlike Nottingham City Council, Peterborough City Council has now bowed to the demands of Communities Secretary Eric Pickles, over its transparency by publishing payments to suppliers over £500:
Up until recently, Peterborough City Council, had been one of the eight of 400-plus local authorities who had yet to agree to publish their spending online.
As reported in the Evening Telegraph, Cllr Nick Sandford said:
“I’m happy that the figures have been published online as I think it’s important that the public can see how their taxes are spent.
“However, we are often discouraged from using the Freedom of Information route if we require details as councillors, so I don’t see why people should have to go through a long, drawn-out, bureaucratic process if the information is easily accessed.
“That said, I can understand this route would be better if someone submits 20 pages of questions!”
