WHAT IS GOING ON AT THE ORTON CENTRE?
Posted on Sunday, October 01 @ 15:48:05 BST by

Communities (01/10/06) After the latest delay and continued problems at the Orton Centre, local Lib Dem councillors tell us they want answers to the questions posed by residents:

Contrasting to the press releases that fly out from the Town Hall declaring that plans are in place for the Orton Centre and that every thing is rosy for the future, one man who disagrees, is Lib Dem councillor for the area, Will Trueman.

Commenting on the present state of the centre, Will said:

“At the moment it is simply degrading!

“Businesses are slowly disappearing and the overall look is one of tiredness and failure.

“While other areas of the city get the necessary funding to kick start their local communities and businesses, like the Bretton Centre, what about the Orton Centre?

“The Orton Centre has a lot going for it – a superb school, wonderful surroundings, the opportunity for some great shops to occupy those empty units and the huge potential to be a social and economic hub for the local area?

“My question at present is, what are the ruling Tories playing at?”

William tells us that he and fellow Lib Dem, Cllr Crane, want to see some answers for the people of Orton.

Fellow Lib Dem for the area, Cllr John Crane added;

“Yet again work on the much awaited project has been postponed! .

“I am very disappointed and have promised residents that I will continue to monitor the situation.

“I will also continue to press for work to begin sooner rather than later.”

Worth Noting:

* According to the latest murmurings from the Town Hall, work should start in November – but then we have heard this before!
