TORY COUNCIL SET TO ADOPT LIB DEM POLICY

(24/01/10) Peterborough's Tory controlled council look set to implement a proposal, previously put forward by the Liberal Democrat group months ago, in which our guys called for a reduction in frequency of Your Peterborough magazine. Its not the first time they have nicked a good idea from our guys:
Liberal Democrats have previously called for the abolition of the councils in-house magazine, describing it as a propaganda sheet and highlighted the unfair policy of not allowing oppositional views to be printed.
Last year the Liberal Democrat group even called for, at the very least, a reduction in the number of editions published throughout the year and now it looks like, even the Conservatives have seen sense, given the current economic climate?
Detailed in the Councils medium term financial strategy document, the plan is to reduce the current number of ten publications a year to six. This will save local tax payers seventy grand a year.
Commenting on the news, Liberal Democrat group leader, Cllr Darren Fower said:
"Its great news that the Tories are looking to make a saving in an unessential service, although in all honesty I for one would still like to see it scrapped. One thing that is for sure is that this is further evidence that Liberal Democrats are a party of sensible and well thought out policies."
Worth Noting:
* The Councils acknowledgement can be seen in this Freedom of Information request.
* This is not the first time that the Tories have tried to pass of Liberal Democrat policy or proposals as their own. For example, in recent years they adopted the three bin scheme, continued the Park and Ride scheme and even started to look at introducing Area Committees . . . . Although they call then Neighbourhood Councils/Committees!
