Action on Norwood Lane REQ #Video

Cllr Julia Davidson and myself were recently contacted by residents of the Traveller Site, on Norwood Lane, regarding the atrocious build up of fly-tipping along the road leading in via Newborough Road. We’ve now paid several site visits, spoken with local residents, the site manager, the Council and of course requested action is taken to address the matter. The sad fact is that the problem has been ongoing for some 30 years and tidy up operation are estimated to cost Peterborough City Council around £60,000 a year! To date, countless councillors and Council Officers have said they’ll do something and then taking little or no action. These people pay their Council[…]

Lib Dems will give millions EXTRA for #MentalHealth in #Peterborough

The Liberal Democrats would add another £1 billion for mental ill health care through putting a penny on income tax. This would equate to approximately £14,000,000 of additional health funding being spent in Cambridgeshire tackling the “historic injustice” faced by people with mental ill health. Health, particularly mental health is a key issue on the doorstep. People want action, not just words, neither Labour nor the Conservatives have outlined how they will fund mental health services. Lib Dems want to invest in improving waiting time standards for mental health care in Peterborough, and the scandalous use of force against people with mental ill health and prioritise national action to dramatically reduce the number[…]

Local Lib Dems will stand up for EU nationals in Peterborough!

It is important to remember that the EU was created to end centuries of war in Europe and bring prosperity to all European countries …. of course, there is still much work to do! It is becoming ever more clear that Theresa May is willing to scrap a free trade deal with the rest of Europe in order to pander to UKIP and the far-right of her own party. Nobody knows what Brexit will look like. The choices Theresa May will make will affect Peterborough and our country for decades – that’s your job, your weekly shop, your environment, your safety, where you can travel to and where you can[…]

Manor Drive Development – 1 Year behind Schedule

I recently discovered that part of the Manor Drive development is 1 year behind schedule. I discovered the news during a site visit to Manor Drive, along with Cllr Davidson. Since then, a meeting, including all three of your local Lib Dem councillors, took place at the Town Hall to discuss the renewal planning application for the site. Officers at the Town Hall talk about housing, local facilities, open space and infrastructure …. But there’s NOWT planned! The Council Officers didn’t know how much section 106 money we’d be getting from the developers when I asked, there’s no plans for a shop, community centre or decent infrastructure, and nearly 50%[…]

£770 boost to 18,410 pensioners in #Peterborough

18,410 pensioners living in Peterborough will receive at least an extra £772 per year under the Liberal Democrat policy to protect the ‘triple lock’ for state pensions. Peterborough has over 4,500 more people, receiving state pensions than neighbouring Cambridge, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics. Thanks to the triple lock guarantee, secured by the Liberal Democrats when they were in government, the basic state pension has risen in each year by whichever is the higher of earnings, prices or a rate of 2.5%. However, the Conservatives have refused to guarantee whether the triple lock will continue, raising fears it could be scrapped. By keeping the triple lock,[…]

3 reasons why I’ll be voting to remain! #StrongerIn #InTogether

There’s been a lot of talk recently about the EU referendum, and quite rightly, there’s opinion on both sides of the campaign, but I just wanted to make sure that I made it puibllicly clear that I myself will definitely be voting to REMAIN, and here’s three reasons why: New citizens a.k.a migration, people from EU or non EU countries, or even from other parts of the UK for that matter, have enabled Peterborough City Council to collect record levels of Council Tax receipts, to spend on their services and reduce the impact of Tory Government budget cuts, given us record levels of employment in our city, providing qualified staff[…]

Where do we stand when it comes to education?

People often ask us what we would do differently if Liberal Democrats were running the city council, here we turn our attention in this issue to education. So, what would we do? We would put more investment into education and make better use of the pupil premium – government cash which allows schools additional money for disadvantaged pupils. We would aim to raise ‘aspirations’ by showing the benefits of education. For example, we would invest in a major ‘careers fair’ to show that good, well-paid jobs are available to pupils from any background who work hard at school. We would make better use of buildings that the council already owns which could be used for educational purposes – such as the Central[…]

Improving where we live…….

We are often critical of the Tory council and residents sometimes ask what the Lib Dems would do differently if we were running the city council. So what would we do? We would introduce more ‘community ownership’, for example helping local groups to adopt the bowling greens which the council last year threatened to close. We would devolve power to local communities to do things like introduce 20 mph speed limits, fine people who park on grass verges (and plant trees to stop cars getting onto verges in the first place) and clear rubbish from the streets. We would auction licences for alcohol stores and houses where rooms are let to different individuals, instead of just giving the licences[…]

Gunthorpe Liberal Democrats have a ‘winning team’

The Peterborough Liberal Democrats believe they have a ‘winning team’ fighting the local elections taking place in areas of Werrington and Gunthorpe. In the new ward that is officially be known as ‘Gunthorpe’ the three council seats will be contested by existing councillors Darren Fower and Julia Davidson together with FOCUS co-ordinator Andrew Bond. Local resident and Liberal Democrat FOCUS Deliverer, Mike Holland said: “We have picked a winning team that has already established an excellent reputation with local people. Darren and Julia are long-standing councillors who have proved that they are effective campaigners on behalf of the area and its residents. “Andrew has been working, often ‘behind the scenes’, to support them and all three will[…]

Hundreds of #Peterborough residents call for Council to #ScrapTheMayorsCar

Just in case anyone had forgotten, allow me to remind you what the Conservatives nationally and locallyhave been saying for several months now, after each and every austerity action, that “we are all in this together!” But, are we really? You can add YOUR support to the on-line campaign by VISITING HERE! The Tories at the Town Hall have recently awarded themselves a brand new jag for their ex-Leader and now Mayor, Cllr John Peach. It’s costing thousands of pounds a year to have (not including petrol or staff time), but luckily, the local Conservatives do not have to pay for it, thankfully that’s all covered for by the goodo[…]
