Gunthorpe Ward: Safer Peterborough Speed Signs (Councillor Bond)

FANTASTIC NEWS FOR GUNTHORPE RESIDENTS!  Like many wards in Peterborough and of course all over the world, Gunthorpe is faced with the many motorists which deem it appropriate to SPEED. One of my first pieces of casework when I was elected back in May 2016; was the implementation of the 30mph speed limit signs at the beginning of Manor Drive (See Below). Manor Drive is a fast growing estate in Gunthorpe, located adjacent to Paston Parkway…however despite the speeding it was yet to have any speed provisions implemented. Before Christmas, Manor Drive was lucky enough to receive Speed Bumps as an extra provision to help tackle the on going issues[…]

#RunawayHorses : Update

Do you live in Gunthorpe, Drive through Gunthorpe or Live Locally?  Have you noticed the Mischievous Horses that keep escaping on to Manor Drive and Paston Parkway? You may have seen my previous posts in regards to the #RunawayHorses. Whilst out and about in the ward last year I was stunned to find a Horse wandering around on Paston Parkway towards the centre of the Gunthorpe Roundabout ( You can read the original post on my Facebook Page or Blog by looking for #RunawayHorses). Luckily on this occasion along with other residents I managed to bring the Horse to safety and reunite the Horse with it’s owner. However unfortunately, even though[…]

St George’s Community Hydrotherapy Pool

St Georges Community Hydrotherapy Pool  Back in December I was lucky enough to be asked to visit St George’s Community Hydrotherapy Pool by the lovely Karen Oldale. I of course graciously accepted this invitation. Upon my visit, I invited a fellow Liberal Democrat to accompany me. Although I had family members that had made use of the pool through their careers; I hadn’t visited myself before. When we arrived we were very warmly welcomed by the whole team and were provided with Lovely Blue Shoe Covers (Ha Ha). We were then taken on a tour by the Lovely Robert and Karen who explained the ins and outs of the pool![…]

“We Feel Trapped In Our Own Homes” Says Peterborough Resident

Residents of Cleveland Court and The Pentlands Residents are seeing significant issues during school times; along with many other residents in Gunthorpe/Werrington and Peterborough. As you all probably already know, I have been working closely with the Local Primary Schools to try and help tackle/ease the ongoing parking issues we have during Pickup and Drop Off times. After various Facebook Posts and Blog Posts (Click to Remind Yourself) I had been contacted by various residents of both of these streets and many others . The Residents are sadly being made to feel ‘Trapped’ in their own homes and fear for their safety ( in the case of an emergency) during[…]

Liberal Democrats would boost support for small businesses

Cllr Julia Davidson has backed a call from Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron who has proposed a series of policies that will help small businesses in Peterborough. In a speech called ‘Investing in the future’ Tim Farron  proposed a series of policies, that will benefit small businesses, enterprise and young people in the Peterborough area. In a direct appeal to small businesses in Peterborough, Tim said Liberal Democrats were now the party of small business, and would help them in three key ways: 1. We would give real teeth to the Small Business Commissioner, such as the power to fine large companies who regularly fail to pay their bills on[…]

Plans to make the UK the largest economy in Europe!

Peterborough Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate, Darren Fower said: “The Liberal Democrats are on the side of business in creating an economy that is open to international students and the global skills pool our country needs to grow. Britain has thrived by being part of the European Union and that is why the Liberal Democrats remain committed to ensuring we continue to play out part in the world’s largest single market. “We have started to reap the rewards, but we want to do more to move our economy from recovery to renewal across the whole of the UK over the coming decade.” The Liberal Democrats have now set out a five[…]

Temporary extension to local pubs licenses costs just £21

Pubs, bars and clubs in Peterborough are being advised to make sure they are correctly licensed for Christmas Eve and New Year‘s Eve, the City Council are warning. As both dates fall on Wednesdays this year, businesses must apply for an extension of their license if it does not currently permit them to serve customers beyond their normal weekday opening times on the two days. According to Officers at the Town Hall, “Peterborough City Council is aware there are a number of premises in the city that do not currently have permission to open later on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, which are traditionally busy occasions for night spots.”[…]

Energy investment good for Peterborough

As Peterborough Lib Dems continue to push the Tory council to meet the city’s stated ambition to be the UK’s ‘environment capital’, the Liberal Democrat Secretary of State for Energy & Climate Change has published the government’s first ever Energy Investment Report. Ed Davey MP says the report shows how Liberal Democrats in government have delivered on jobs and investment in energy – particularly green energy – and shows the plan we now have for this to continue for decades to come. The sheer scale of the investment has already been huge: between 2010 and 2013 we’ve secured £45 billion of investment in electricity generation and networks alone. The UK’s[…]
