Give £527 pay rise to nurses in Peterborough to address staffing shortages

Liberal Democrats would end years of pay restraint for nurses, teachers and police in Cambridgeshire by lifting the 1% cap on public sector pay and increases wages in line with inflation. Under our plans, around 2,225 teachers working in Peterborough would receive an average pay rise of £894 over the next few years, while the 1,339 police working for Cambridgeshire would see their pay boosted by £471. The plans would also lead to an estimated pay rise of £527 for 1,012 nurses working for the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust, helping to tackle the shortage of nurses and potential strikes in the coming years. In contrast, the Conservative’s[…]

NHS locally could lose 331 EU staff because of Brexit

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust could lose 331 staff from the EU as a result of Theresa May’s extreme version of Brexit. 42% of nurses and over half of all doctors from the EU are considering leaving because of Brexit, according to recent research. This means in our area, an estimated 331 NHS staff are at risk of leaving including 49 doctors and 148 nurses. This would create a bill of hundreds of thousands of £’s to re-hire doctors and nurses from the EU after 2019, due to Theresa May’s plans for a £2000 immigration skills charge for each doctor, nurse and health worker brought in from abroad. The[…]

Lib Dems penny for NHS would raise £56m extra for Cambridgeshire

The Liberal Democrats have a sound and simple policy that would plug funding gaps for the NHS and social care ………..by putting a penny on income tax! The tax would raise an additional £56,000,000 for NHS Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG, with £14,000,000 for Mental Health funding and £6,000,000 for social care in Peterborough, each year! At least 70% of Brits have said they would happily pay an extra 1p in every pound if that money was guaranteed to go to the NHS, an ITV poll found last October (link). Right now in Peterborough, we are told of patients lying on trolleys in hospital corridors, urgent operations being cancelled and the elderly[…]

Lib Dems will give millions EXTRA for #MentalHealth in #Peterborough

The Liberal Democrats would add another £1 billion for mental ill health care through putting a penny on income tax. This would equate to approximately £14,000,000 of additional health funding being spent in Cambridgeshire tackling the “historic injustice” faced by people with mental ill health. Health, particularly mental health is a key issue on the doorstep. People want action, not just words, neither Labour nor the Conservatives have outlined how they will fund mental health services. Lib Dems want to invest in improving waiting time standards for mental health care in Peterborough, and the scandalous use of force against people with mental ill health and prioritise national action to dramatically reduce the number[…]

Gunthorpe Ward: Safer Peterborough Speed Signs (Councillor Bond)

FANTASTIC NEWS FOR GUNTHORPE RESIDENTS!  Like many wards in Peterborough and of course all over the world, Gunthorpe is faced with the many motorists which deem it appropriate to SPEED. One of my first pieces of casework when I was elected back in May 2016; was the implementation of the 30mph speed limit signs at the beginning of Manor Drive (See Below). Manor Drive is a fast growing estate in Gunthorpe, located adjacent to Paston Parkway…however despite the speeding it was yet to have any speed provisions implemented. Before Christmas, Manor Drive was lucky enough to receive Speed Bumps as an extra provision to help tackle the on going issues[…]

#RunawayHorses : Update

Do you live in Gunthorpe, Drive through Gunthorpe or Live Locally?  Have you noticed the Mischievous Horses that keep escaping on to Manor Drive and Paston Parkway? You may have seen my previous posts in regards to the #RunawayHorses. Whilst out and about in the ward last year I was stunned to find a Horse wandering around on Paston Parkway towards the centre of the Gunthorpe Roundabout ( You can read the original post on my Facebook Page or Blog by looking for #RunawayHorses). Luckily on this occasion along with other residents I managed to bring the Horse to safety and reunite the Horse with it’s owner. However unfortunately, even though[…]

St George’s Community Hydrotherapy Pool

St Georges Community Hydrotherapy Pool  Back in December I was lucky enough to be asked to visit St George’s Community Hydrotherapy Pool by the lovely Karen Oldale. I of course graciously accepted this invitation. Upon my visit, I invited a fellow Liberal Democrat to accompany me. Although I had family members that had made use of the pool through their careers; I hadn’t visited myself before. When we arrived we were very warmly welcomed by the whole team and were provided with Lovely Blue Shoe Covers (Ha Ha). We were then taken on a tour by the Lovely Robert and Karen who explained the ins and outs of the pool![…]

Rogue Meat from company in #HamptonVale

Dutch Bangla Direct Ltd  are accused of selling over 100 tonnes of the low-cost white meat to takeaways and shops. A court heard the con-trick netted the now defunct meat wholesaler company a whopping £250,000 in profit. Trading Standards discovered the alleged fraud during an investigation into the national horse meat scandal in 2013. The firm’s boss Mahmudur Rohman, (46), of Rothbart Way, Peterborough has now gone on trial with three other men at Leicester Crown Court. How can a company be hoodwinked into believing Turkey is lamb? to bulk up the quantity the supplier as come up with what they thought was a a solution to not only reduce[…]

CQC finds significant concerns at Barchester Healthcare home in Peterborough

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has warned national care provider Barchester Healthcare to make urgent improvements at its Werrington Lodge care home in Peterborough to ensure everyone who lives there receives the quality of care and support they are entitled to expect. During an unannounced inspection which took place on 8 and 12 May 2014, CQC found a number of very significant concerns, including: Some people were left in bed for long periods of time during the day, sometimes in beds that were wet with urine. The home was unclean and people were not protected from the risks of infection. Some areas in the home smelled of urine and there[…]

Walton FOCUS team support Hydrotherapy pool

Local Lib Dem councillor for the Walton ward, Asif Shaheed recently visited St. George’s Community Hydrotherapy Pool, having being contacted by local resident, Mrs Smeeton, about possible funding via the Community Leadership Fund. Asif said: “There are around 40 Walton residents who use the facility. It is also regularly used by local nurseries and schools. “Having witnessed first-hand the invaluable service that it provides, and because for some unknown reason it is not centrally funded, Walton’s other Lib Dem councillor Nick Sandford and I were happy to provide funding to help towardssecuring its future.”
