Lib Dems plan to address housing shortage in Peterborough

Unlike some, the Liberal Democrats have a plan to address the housing shortage in Peterborough and build more affordable homes. In 2015, there were 2,790 applicants in Peterborough, on the local housing waiting list, in 2016, this has risen to 3,359 in 2016. A rise of OVER 17% … And I expect this figure to have grown for 2017! In addition, official figures last year showed 588 homes in Peterborough were empty for over six months. So what would Liberal Democrats do? Introduce a legal requirement for smaller housing developments to include affordable homes, make it easier for local authorities and housing associations to borrow money and set up a[…]

How much extra are you paying for Brown Bin collection ?

The Garden Waste Service, aka Brown Bin Tax, has been offered for a while now. Some would say that it is fair that households that use the service should pay separately, but is it fair that the service is a flat fee regardless of the size of house. The effective increase to a Band A house is 5.1% in the Peterborough City Council element of the council tax bill, in comparison with a 1.7% on a Band H house. Check the table below to see how much more you are paying:

Gunthorpe Ward: Safer Peterborough Speed Signs (Councillor Bond)

FANTASTIC NEWS FOR GUNTHORPE RESIDENTS!  Like many wards in Peterborough and of course all over the world, Gunthorpe is faced with the many motorists which deem it appropriate to SPEED. One of my first pieces of casework when I was elected back in May 2016; was the implementation of the 30mph speed limit signs at the beginning of Manor Drive (See Below). Manor Drive is a fast growing estate in Gunthorpe, located adjacent to Paston Parkway…however despite the speeding it was yet to have any speed provisions implemented. Before Christmas, Manor Drive was lucky enough to receive Speed Bumps as an extra provision to help tackle the on going issues[…]

#RunawayHorses : Update

Do you live in Gunthorpe, Drive through Gunthorpe or Live Locally?  Have you noticed the Mischievous Horses that keep escaping on to Manor Drive and Paston Parkway? You may have seen my previous posts in regards to the #RunawayHorses. Whilst out and about in the ward last year I was stunned to find a Horse wandering around on Paston Parkway towards the centre of the Gunthorpe Roundabout ( You can read the original post on my Facebook Page or Blog by looking for #RunawayHorses). Luckily on this occasion along with other residents I managed to bring the Horse to safety and reunite the Horse with it’s owner. However unfortunately, even though[…]

St George’s Community Hydrotherapy Pool

St Georges Community Hydrotherapy Pool  Back in December I was lucky enough to be asked to visit St George’s Community Hydrotherapy Pool by the lovely Karen Oldale. I of course graciously accepted this invitation. Upon my visit, I invited a fellow Liberal Democrat to accompany me. Although I had family members that had made use of the pool through their careers; I hadn’t visited myself before. When we arrived we were very warmly welcomed by the whole team and were provided with Lovely Blue Shoe Covers (Ha Ha). We were then taken on a tour by the Lovely Robert and Karen who explained the ins and outs of the pool![…]

Curbing Graffiti Issues

Graffiti is an issue City Wide but it is becoming a BIG ISSUE in our ward (Gunthorpe). Most of the electric boxes now have Graffiti.. Most of the Graffiti is untasteful and includes the use of Crude language. Not only does this look unappealing; it’s terrible that everyone (especially Children) are having to be exposed to that kind of language. This is Vandalism…not ART. Although I have reported every case I have come across to Peterborough City Council  and they are removing what they can… it is SADLY never too long before the Graffiti reappears. I have since been approached by individuals in our Local Community who have suggested that[…]

St Micheal’s Gate Eviction Going ahead Despite Petition

Local resident Jelana Stevic is continuing to campaign on  behalf of her fellow residents of St Micheal’s Gate, Parnwell, despite collecting a Petition of over 500 signatures   and addressing this situation at a meeting at Full Council, the Conservative controlled council as decided to enforce the business model with Landlords Stef and Philips. Tenants now face being evicted and continued uncertainty on their future.   The local authority failed to even consider any other alternatives, on 19th October 2016 under this administration,  could have intervened and requested more time to consider its findings instead they rejected the Call in. A Homeless man gave us a explanation on how[…]

Petition with 618 signatures Presented to Peterborough City Council

Jelana Stevic a resident from St Michael’s Gate Parnwell personally,  hand delivered a petition containing 618 signatures on the 1st November 2016 to Peterborough City Council. Jelana Stevic has been one of the residents trying to make sense of this flawed deal that the Peterborough City Council has entered into with Steph and Philips ( private landlords ) She has been one the vocal residents along with other residents facing eviction but today proved to be too much, handing over the Petition to the Governance Senior Officer, she broke down. The true strain and pressure came to the surface, Jelana was visibly in a state of distress as she attempted[…]

Deputy Chief Executive becomes Chief Executive of @CrossKeysHomes

Cross Keys Homes has announced Claire Higgins will be their new Chief Executive, replacing Mick Leggett (pictured). Claire was only appointed Deputy Chief Executive earlier this year. Claire has worked for Cross Keys Homes since it was formed, following the transfer of its housing stock from Peterborough City Council in 2004. Christine Cunningham, Chair of the new Residents’ Board, who was also on the recruitment panel, said: “Claire’s appointment is great news for Cross Keys Homes and its tenants. Her commitment to tenant involvement and providing great service is shown in everything she does and I know this will continue now she is Chief Executive.” What’s your thoughts on Cross[…]
