Policing Matters … and here’s what I’d like to see!

The police I’ve spoken with in Peterborough in recent weeks, tell me that morale is down, they are overstretched and feel under appreciated. After years of reduction in traditional crime, we have seen an increase, particularly in violent crime, since 2015. At the same time, Cambs police are under pressure from reduced funding, with less money available for the community policing we all value. With that in mind, here’s a couple of things I’d like to see ….. Increase community policing. End the 1% cap on police pay rises. Require all frontline officers to wear body cameras on duty. Resource BAME staff associations such as the National Black Police Association[…]

1000 local residents have their say!

Cllr Julia Davidson and I recently handed in a petition of around 1000 signatures (the largest petition EVER handed in for this area in 14 years) from concerned parents, who were campaigning for action following news that Funbase on Gunthorpe Road, was due to close. Local parents in Gunthorpe, who used the after school and holidays club, discovered that it was set to close after it was given ‘inadequate’ ratings in an Ofsted inspection. Instead of simply accepting this news, several leading lights took up the campaign, held meetings, door knocked and collected 1000 signatures, calling for action from the City Council, to ensure that the service was maintained. Within[…]

Action on Norwood Lane REQ #Video

Cllr Julia Davidson and myself were recently contacted by residents of the Traveller Site, on Norwood Lane, regarding the atrocious build up of fly-tipping along the road leading in via Newborough Road. We’ve now paid several site visits, spoken with local residents, the site manager, the Council and of course requested action is taken to address the matter. The sad fact is that the problem has been ongoing for some 30 years and tidy up operation are estimated to cost Peterborough City Council around £60,000 a year! To date, countless councillors and Council Officers have said they’ll do something and then taking little or no action. These people pay their Council[…]

Manor Drive Development – 1 Year behind Schedule

I recently discovered that part of the Manor Drive development is 1 year behind schedule. I discovered the news during a site visit to Manor Drive, along with Cllr Davidson. Since then, a meeting, including all three of your local Lib Dem councillors, took place at the Town Hall to discuss the renewal planning application for the site. Officers at the Town Hall talk about housing, local facilities, open space and infrastructure …. But there’s NOWT planned! The Council Officers didn’t know how much section 106 money we’d be getting from the developers when I asked, there’s no plans for a shop, community centre or decent infrastructure, and nearly 50%[…]

Dog on Dog Incident

Dog owners should be responsible people,  they should have complete control of their dogs when they are around  out in the community; around other dogs, children, adults and Posties. Dogs are instinctively dangerous and their owners have a part to play in the dog’s behaviour. 25% of all households now own a dog, so how much can we trust them? The message I want to get out there is that I am asking this council to educate all dog owners. Peterborough should have a dedicated specialist, someone to deal with cases as they arise. Vets, Police, owners and Peterborough City Council could look at introducing a fixed penalties for dogs that[…]

OUT of LIVES

Banner-waving protesters were incensed with the council still having elected member Cllr A Coles carrying out his duties, as demonstrated when they disrupted a council meeting with loud protests earlier this evening, Councillors arrived at Peterborough City Council to attend the Full Council meeting and were met by protesters at the back of the Town Hall.  Their banners, abuse and chants of “shame on you” were demanding that Cllr A Coles quit. At one point as tensions reached boiling point, the mayor Cllr John Fox halted proceedings for five minutes, then tried to reconvene the meeting but to no avail.  The protests continued with chants to have Cllr Coles suspended from[…]

Funbase Imminent Closure

Funbase Gunthorpe Family Centre  is a service placement for day care services, which supports 147 children whilst parents are at work locally and outside the borough, Funbase as been given a extension till the 18th Aug to enable parents to find a suitable placement for their children. The Local Authority PCC has looked into other options; Gunthorpe School have been unable to assist due to having no capacity while Norwood school is looking at a long term solution for provisions for an “out of school club”. A number of Local parents at Funbase has formed an “Action Group” with the view to exhaust all options to SAVE OUR FUNBASE. They[…]

Gunthorpe Ward: Safer Peterborough Speed Signs (Councillor Bond)

FANTASTIC NEWS FOR GUNTHORPE RESIDENTS!  Like many wards in Peterborough and of course all over the world, Gunthorpe is faced with the many motorists which deem it appropriate to SPEED. One of my first pieces of casework when I was elected back in May 2016; was the implementation of the 30mph speed limit signs at the beginning of Manor Drive (See Below). Manor Drive is a fast growing estate in Gunthorpe, located adjacent to Paston Parkway…however despite the speeding it was yet to have any speed provisions implemented. Before Christmas, Manor Drive was lucky enough to receive Speed Bumps as an extra provision to help tackle the on going issues[…]
