The Deputy Mayor of Peterborough, Councillor Andrew Bond, and Deputy Mayoress Jade Seager paid a special visit to Park Lane Nursery today, marking an emotional homecoming for Jade, who began her childcare career there as one of the nursery’s first apprentices in 2012 at just 17 years old, when it was known as St Thomas More Catholic Nursery.

During the visit, Andrew and Jade met with children and staff, celebrated the important role that early years education plays in the community, and reflected on the lasting connections formed through the nursery.

For Jade, returning in her civic role brought back many fond memories of the place where her professional journey first began.

Jade Seager, Deputy Mayoress of Peterborough, said:

“It was wonderful to see how the nursery has grown and developed over the years. It remains such a warm, welcoming and nurturing setting for children and families, and returning today truly felt like coming home.”

“I have so many happy memories from my time here as a 17-year-old apprentice in 2012, when it was St Thomas More Catholic Nursery. The name may have changed, but the caring ethos, sense of community and dedication of the staff remain exactly as I remember. It was incredibly special to come back and see children learning, playing and thriving in such a wonderful environment.”

Mrs Christine Kurys, Nursery Manager, said:

“Jade was a big part of our nursery family, and it was truly lovely to welcome her back today alongside Deputy Mayor Andrew Bond. We have always been proud of everything she has achieved, and seeing her return in this role was a very special moment for both staff and children.”

“One of the greatest joys of working in early years is watching children and young people grow, develop and go on to do wonderful things. It means so much when former members of our nursery family come back to visit, and Jade’s story is a fantastic example of the lasting impact that those early experiences and opportunities can have.”

“We are proud to provide a caring, welcoming and inspiring environment where every child is encouraged to flourish, and we look forward to continuing to support local families and future generations for many years to come.”

Park Lane Nursery welcomes children from two to four years old and is committed to providing a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment where children learn through play, build confidence and develop a lifelong love of learning. Working in partnership with families, the nursery continues to support generations of local children as they take their first steps in education.

The visit served as a celebration not only of Jade’s personal journey, but also of the enduring importance of early years education, apprenticeships and the community ties that remain long after children and staff leave the nursery gates. It was a poignant reminder that, while names and buildings may evolve over time, the relationships and foundations built in early childhood can last a lifetime.
