Lib Dems penny for NHS would raise £56m extra for Cambridgeshire

The Liberal Democrats have a sound and simple policy that would plug funding gaps for the NHS and social care ………..by putting a penny on income tax! The tax would raise an additional £56,000,000 for NHS Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG, with £14,000,000 for Mental Health funding and £6,000,000 for social care in Peterborough, each year! At least 70% of Brits have said they would happily pay an extra 1p in every pound if that money was guaranteed to go to the NHS, an ITV poll found last October (link). Right now in Peterborough, we are told of patients lying on trolleys in hospital corridors, urgent operations being cancelled and the elderly[…]

Lib Dems will give millions EXTRA for #MentalHealth in #Peterborough

The Liberal Democrats would add another £1 billion for mental ill health care through putting a penny on income tax. This would equate to approximately £14,000,000 of additional health funding being spent in Cambridgeshire tackling the “historic injustice” faced by people with mental ill health. Health, particularly mental health is a key issue on the doorstep. People want action, not just words, neither Labour nor the Conservatives have outlined how they will fund mental health services. Lib Dems want to invest in improving waiting time standards for mental health care in Peterborough, and the scandalous use of force against people with mental ill health and prioritise national action to dramatically reduce the number[…]

St George’s Community Hydrotherapy Pool

St Georges Community Hydrotherapy Pool  Back in December I was lucky enough to be asked to visit St George’s Community Hydrotherapy Pool by the lovely Karen Oldale. I of course graciously accepted this invitation. Upon my visit, I invited a fellow Liberal Democrat to accompany me. Although I had family members that had made use of the pool through their careers; I hadn’t visited myself before. When we arrived we were very warmly welcomed by the whole team and were provided with Lovely Blue Shoe Covers (Ha Ha). We were then taken on a tour by the Lovely Robert and Karen who explained the ins and outs of the pool![…]

“We Feel Trapped In Our Own Homes” Says Peterborough Resident

Residents of Cleveland Court and The Pentlands Residents are seeing significant issues during school times; along with many other residents in Gunthorpe/Werrington and Peterborough. As you all probably already know, I have been working closely with the Local Primary Schools to try and help tackle/ease the ongoing parking issues we have during Pickup and Drop Off times. After various Facebook Posts and Blog Posts (Click to Remind Yourself) I had been contacted by various residents of both of these streets and many others . The Residents are sadly being made to feel ‘Trapped’ in their own homes and fear for their safety ( in the case of an emergency) during[…]

Parking Safety in Gunthorpe- Update

Norwood and Gunthorpe Primary School Recap: You may have seen my many recent Facebook posts and blog posts regarding Gunthorpe Primary School, Norwood Primary School and Welbourne Primary School. I started working with all three of these primary schools before Christmas; after I was contacted by many concerned parents/carers and residents. Concerns were raised over many factors but primarily and most importantly the SAFETY of the CHILDREN.  (To update yourself click here) In one of my previous Blog Posts you may have seen that PCC had agreed to undertake assessments to assess whether further parking restrictions were needed and would be beneficial in the streets surrounding all three of the Primary[…]

Vandalism in Peterborough

You may have seen Peterborough Today’s recent articles regarding the extreme Vandalism at Ferry Meadows.  Sadly over the past few days there has been vandalism to the Children’s Play Areas, Trees and Memorial Benches at Ferry Meadows in Peterborough. The Vandals carried this during the evening and it has been reported whomever carried this out; did so with a saw. It deeply saddens me that such thing is happening in Peterborough. I’m sure that many Peterborians have visited Ferry Meadows and probably have many happy childhood memories there. I can speak for myself, my friends and my family when I say I do. It is absolutely appalling that anyone could deem[…]

9,073 jobs in Peterborough reliant on membership to EU #StrongerIn

Did you read the YouGov poll published recently claiming Peterborough was the 2nd most Eurosceptic place in the country? What utter tosh! We are a city that celebrates our diversity, through daily neighbourly contact to annual festivals in the city centre! All this poll was doing, was playing up to the image our city has to those who don’t live here! And here’s why: First and foremost, YouGov only asked 207 people! That equates to 0.13% of the city’s population. Why was Peterborough seperated out from the rest of Cambridgeshire? Why wasn’t Cambridge seperated out? If around 200 local people’s opinion now equals the truth, then it must be time[…]

Peterborough to become part of Cambridgeshire County Council?

There’ll no doubt be one or two questions amongst councillors after the Local Government Chronicle reported talks had taken place between the leaders of Peterborough City Council and Cambridgeshire County Council, regarding the possibility of amalgamating the two authorities. As some may remember, in 1998 Peterborough became autonomous of Cambridgeshire county council as a unitary authority, 17 years on, its seems there planning of reverting back? Q: A sensible idea or a complete and costly backwards step? In the article, it stated: “Cambridgeshire leader Steve Count (Con) said talks had taken place with Peterborough City Council about potentially forming a combined authority.” What do YOU think? Peterborough railway station

Peterborough needs an integrated transport policy

“We need a city council that has higher ambitions for our city than just a ‘dormitory with warehouses’ and part of that must be to improve all our transport links” says Peterborough Liberal Democrat vice chairman Peter Chivall in a recent article in the Peterborough Telegraph. Local Liberal Democrats support many aspects of the strategic economic plan published earlier this year by the  Local Enterprise Partnership. The transport section of that plan included promotion of roads improvements but it gave equal weight to the need to improve our rail links, both on the East Coast Main line and cross country to Ely, Ipswich and Cambridge. In the context of ‘expansion beyond Cambridge of[…]
