Lib Dem membership in #Pboro up 50% since end of last year!

I’m very proud to say that Liberal Democrats in Peterborough have seen a surge in new members over the past 8 months, with over 200+ signed up members now in the city! This news comes as the Liberal Democrats have reached their highest ever membership nationally, with over 101,768 members! You can join the Boro Lib Dems for as little as £1 a month! Simply visit: www.libdems.org.uk/Join Did you know …… Over 50,000 members have joined since last year’s EU referendum! Since I joined the Liberal Democrats 17+ years ago, I’ve seen membership grow by 80% in Peterborough. 1000 local residents have their say!

Cllr Julia Davidson and I recently handed in a petition of around 1000 signatures (the largest petition EVER handed in for this area in 14 years) from concerned parents, who were campaigning for action following news that Funbase on Gunthorpe Road, was due to close. Local parents in Gunthorpe, who used the after school and holidays club, discovered that it was set to close after it was given ‘inadequate’ ratings in an Ofsted inspection. Instead of simply accepting this news, several leading lights took up the campaign, held meetings, door knocked and collected 1000 signatures, calling for action from the City Council, to ensure that the service was maintained. Within[…]

Action on Norwood Lane REQ #Video

Cllr Julia Davidson and myself were recently contacted by residents of the Traveller Site, on Norwood Lane, regarding the atrocious build up of fly-tipping along the road leading in via Newborough Road. We’ve now paid several site visits, spoken with local residents, the site manager, the Council and of course requested action is taken to address the matter. The sad fact is that the problem has been ongoing for some 30 years and tidy up operation are estimated to cost Peterborough City Council around £60,000 a year! To date, countless councillors and Council Officers have said they’ll do something and then taking little or no action. These people pay their Council[…]

Bonus for buses at Council budget meeting

New bus services could be running in Peterborough as early as October, following a successful budget amendment moved by Lib Dem Councillors on Peterborough City Council, at the latest budget meeting of Full Council. A cross party working group is to be set up to look at areas of the city which don’t have adequate bus services, following a cut in bus subsidy by over 50% by the Tory administration two years ago. If the working group’s recommendations are agreed, up to £75,000 could be allocated from council contingency reserves to pay for the new services. Also in the budget, Lib Dem intervention helped to stop a barmy proposal by[…]
