1000 local residents have their say!

Cllr Julia Davidson and I recently handed in a petition of around 1000 signatures (the largest petition EVER handed in for this area in 14 years) from concerned parents, who were campaigning for action following news that Funbase on Gunthorpe Road, was due to close. Local parents in Gunthorpe, who used the after school and holidays club, discovered that it was set to close after it was given ‘inadequate’ ratings in an Ofsted inspection. Instead of simply accepting this news, several leading lights took up the campaign, held meetings, door knocked and collected 1000 signatures, calling for action from the City Council, to ensure that the service was maintained. Within[…]

Action on Norwood Lane REQ #Video

Cllr Julia Davidson and myself were recently contacted by residents of the Traveller Site, on Norwood Lane, regarding the atrocious build up of fly-tipping along the road leading in via Newborough Road. We’ve now paid several site visits, spoken with local residents, the site manager, the Council and of course requested action is taken to address the matter. The sad fact is that the problem has been ongoing for some 30 years and tidy up operation are estimated to cost Peterborough City Council around £60,000 a year! To date, countless councillors and Council Officers have said they’ll do something and then taking little or no action. These people pay their Council[…]

Holidays in School Term

Supreme Court ruling tomorrow on whether the government can appeal the high court ruling last year, which found in favour of Jon Platt,a parent who took his child on holiday in school term time. LibDems are the only party whose policy it is to support parent s on this issue. It has been party policy since September  2015 to repeal Gove’s regulations on this & return to the situation where Headteachers had discretion to allow up to 10 days absence per year .

More Cuts on the Horizon

Peterborough City Council has proposed to cut terms and conditions in 2016/2017. It was believed that this was a one – off and austerity continued, they intend to introduce further cuts in 2017/2018. Here we are again, 12 months on, with a city council controlled again by the Tories who have mandated further cuts and, in doing so, have place a gun to the head of its employees. If agreement cannot be reached, they will dismiss their employees and re-engage them on new terms and conditions, which to begin with included. Reduction in Occupational Sick Pay ( no sick pay for the first 3 days of any absence and[…]

A Bus Guide to help you get in and Around Peterborough

Lib Dems Secure New Bus Services For Gunthorpe In 2013,  the Tory controlled city council made devastating cuts in local bus services,  cutting public transport subsidy in half. Lib Dem councillors have been arguing strongly for restoration of some of the cuts and earlier this year it was agreed that an additional £150,000 a year could be found to fund bus service improvements.  After a long delay, the new services finally started on 3 October. There are early morning and evening services to the Fengate area for people who work there and also for people wanting to get to entertainment facilities such as the Greyhound Stadium and the Showcase Cinema. In our[…]

St Micheal’s Gate Eviction Going ahead Despite Petition

Local resident Jelana Stevic is continuing to campaign on  behalf of her fellow residents of St Micheal’s Gate, Parnwell, despite collecting a Petition of over 500 signatures   and addressing this situation at a meeting at Full Council, the Conservative controlled council as decided to enforce the business model with Landlords Stef and Philips. Tenants now face being evicted and continued uncertainty on their future.   The local authority failed to even consider any other alternatives, on 19th October 2016 under this administration,  could have intervened and requested more time to consider its findings instead they rejected the Call in. A Homeless man gave us a explanation on how[…]
