£10,000,000 to refit RAF Voyager aircraft as PM’s private jet

While Austerity continues to bite further into the poorest sections of our society. The Conservatives have come up with another scheme for reducing costs, spending £10M on refitting a RAF Voyager air to air refuelling aircraft. These aircraft were purchased in 2012 at a staggering cost of £152M each  (Read more about how they could purchased them for a third of that price  >>HERE<<) Previously when Tony Blair was PM, he muted plans for a ‘Blair Force One’ at a cost of £100M for two aircraft to be shared with the Royal Family, the Conservatives criticised the idea at the time saying it was the “wrong moment to be splashing[…]

Tories wanted to slash the schools budget!

Did you know that the Conservatives wanted to slash the schools budget on entering office in 2010? In government, Liberal Democrats refused such plans and have fought to protect the education budget. The Conservative assumption in 2010 was for a cash freeze in the schools budget – a whopping 10% cut in real terms over the course of the Parliament. Liberal Democrats insisted on properly protecting the schools budget and getting real terms increases year on year. Photographed briefing documents and a stated mission to make deeper cuts than necessary can only lead to the conclusion that the Tories plan to make deep cuts in education. Peterborough Liberal Democrat’s candidate[…]

Could UKIP candidate determine Park Ward election in 2015?

Park Ward, in recent years has become something of a battleground, and one of the results many involved in the local political scene look out for. For many years, Park ward, a place where the city MP’s ‘local’ property is situated, was considered a safe Tory seat, boasting all three city councillor roles being held by Conservatives. Then in 2011, Labour successfully turned the table and took a seat, with the Tories taking second spot. In 2012, they came second again, but in 2014, when UKIP fielded a candidate, Labour took their second seat for the area. Given the closeness in recent years, the question now is what impact will[…]

This opportunity cannot be hijacked – @Nick_Clegg

The last few days have provided a once in a generation opportunity to rewire British politics for good, Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Nick Clegg writes: Within hours of the momentous decision by the Scottish people to remain in the UK, Westminster found itself once again bogged down in conventional party political point scoring. I have seen for myself the way in which the vested interests in the two old parties can conspire to block reform – scuppering elections to the House of Lords and a clean up of party funding in recent years. We cannot allow an exciting new chapter of empowerment and constitutional renewal to be held hostage[…]

Why are local Lib Dems not backing move to remove Marco?

Newly–Elected Leader of Peterborough Liberal Democrats, Cllr Nick Sandford explains: “A lot has been made of the fact that the Conservatives are no longer in majority control of Peterborough City Council. That needs to be reflected in the governance structures which the Council adopts. As Lib Dems have long argued we need a more consensual approach and one in which decisions are made in public and can be challenged at the time they are made and not weeks later. That necessitates in our view the scrapping of the current Leader and Cabinet model and replacement of it with a system of decision making committees. “The Localism Act passed by the Coalition Government gives us that choice and it is one which[…]

Local Lib Dems are ONLY party campaigning to keep Britain IN Europe! @OP_Peterborough #WhyIamIN

Peterborough Liberal Democrats WILL be the ONLY party during this year’s May elections fighting for thousands of local jobs in the area that benefit from being part of EU and ensuring the millions of pounds given to the city continues, to benefit Peterborough people! Commenting, local LIB DEM councillor Darren Fower said: “The warning is simple! £390,000 written off by Tory controlled Peterborough City Council!

According to a report in the Telegraph, Peterborough City Council, which is run by the Conservatives, and in recent months has complained that a lack of funds is their reason for closing or ceasing a range of services, has now written off more than £390,000 in uncollected debts!
