Care Quality Commission

Do you know where and how to decide on the care for your loved ones? The Care Quality commission is an independent regulator of health and social care in England.  Which launched a campaign to inform those choosing care for either themselves or loved ones of the role CQC (Care Quality Commission) has on the inspection, regulation and ratings of homes so you can make a more informed decision.  Making sure it’s right for you. Choosing the right care for yourself or loved ones can be stressful and confusing.  So many organisations are offering what seems to be very pleasant and enjoyable care.  But how do you really know?  the[…]

Community Asset – St Georges Hydrotherapy Pool

‘St George’s Community Hydrotherapy Pool is an essential asset to Peterborough’s residents’, Simon Barkham said. I was invited to visit St Georges Hydrotherapy Pool in Park Ward (Dogsthorpe Road) Peterborough.  As soon as you arrive, it’s easy to see how loved and valued this venue is by so many people.  Everyone who was there had only the best of words to say about their experience and about the treatment they’d received by using the facilities and also about the staff too. Thomas Booker showed me around the facility and he too, had only good things to say from the perspective of an employee.  I could see that he and the people[…]

Food Glorious Food

The weather is getting colder and the nights are drawing in, Christmas is coming….. Is Christmas-time something everyone looks forward to?  The people who visit the food bank every Thursday at the Hampton CSK Church have mixed views.  The costs of purchasing presents and the additional expensive food stuffs for the festive season are enough to push many families finances over the limit.  Its a time the food bank experiences higher than normal visits, which means we are an essential form of temporary support for those families that are already living week to week. The food bank operates from 19:00 to 21:00 every Thursday where they offer free grocery support[…]

“WE FEEL TRAPPED IN OUR OWN HOMES” UPDATE

“WE FEEL TRAPPED IN OUR OWN HOMES” UPDATE  You may have seen my previous blog posts where Residents of Cleveland Court and The Pentlands Residents were seeing significant issues during school times; along with many other residents in Gunthorpe/Werrington and Peterborough. For the full blog post click here. RECAP As you all probably already know, I have been working closely with the Local Primary Schools to try and help tackle/ease the ongoing parking issues we have during Pickup and Drop Off times. After various Facebook Posts and Blog Posts (Click to Remind Yourself) I had been contacted by various residents of both of these streets and many others . The Residents[…]

#RunawayHorses : Update

Do you live in Gunthorpe, Drive through Gunthorpe or Live Locally?  Have you noticed the Mischievous Horses that keep escaping on to Manor Drive and Paston Parkway? You may have seen my previous posts in regards to the #RunawayHorses. Whilst out and about in the ward last year I was stunned to find a Horse wandering around on Paston Parkway towards the centre of the Gunthorpe Roundabout ( You can read the original post on my Facebook Page or Blog by looking for #RunawayHorses). Luckily on this occasion along with other residents I managed to bring the Horse to safety and reunite the Horse with it’s owner. However unfortunately, even though[…]

“We Feel Trapped In Our Own Homes” Says Peterborough Resident

Residents of Cleveland Court and The Pentlands Residents are seeing significant issues during school times; along with many other residents in Gunthorpe/Werrington and Peterborough. As you all probably already know, I have been working closely with the Local Primary Schools to try and help tackle/ease the ongoing parking issues we have during Pickup and Drop Off times. After various Facebook Posts and Blog Posts (Click to Remind Yourself) I had been contacted by various residents of both of these streets and many others . The Residents are sadly being made to feel ‘Trapped’ in their own homes and fear for their safety ( in the case of an emergency) during[…]

Vandalism in Peterborough

You may have seen Peterborough Today’s recent articles regarding the extreme Vandalism at Ferry Meadows.  Sadly over the past few days there has been vandalism to the Children’s Play Areas, Trees and Memorial Benches at Ferry Meadows in Peterborough. The Vandals carried this during the evening and it has been reported whomever carried this out; did so with a saw. It deeply saddens me that such thing is happening in Peterborough. I’m sure that many Peterborians have visited Ferry Meadows and probably have many happy childhood memories there. I can speak for myself, my friends and my family when I say I do. It is absolutely appalling that anyone could deem[…]

#Walton bus shelter news ………….

In response to a recent article in the Walton FOCUS Team newsletter about people wanting a bus sheter in Corfe avenue, Cllr Asif Shaheed and Cllr Nick Sandford, have now received an email from someone near the proposed location who is very opposed to the idea, on the grounds that it might attract young people to hang around and cause trouble. Nick has been told there will be a public consultation on the issue later this year before any decision is made. If you have any views, please respond to the consultation but also it would be good if you could also give your views to Nick or Asif. The Walton FOCUS[…]

Rhubarb Bridge

Good news on lighting and MUGA in #Walton

At the recent meeting of Full Council in the town Hall, Cllr Nick Sandford asked a question on the state of street lighting in Walton. He spoke about the Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) in Mountsteven Avenue where the lighting has only just been repaired after a year out of action! Nick also asked the cabinet member responsible what can be done about the lights on and near the Rhubarb Bridge,  many of which had been not working for over three months! Nick said: “Its amazing what asking a question at a public meeting can do. Within days I had several council officers contacting me about the problems.  The MUGA is[…]
