1000 local residents have their say!

Cllr Julia Davidson and I recently handed in a petition of around 1000 signatures (the largest petition EVER handed in for this area in 14 years) from concerned parents, who were campaigning for action following news that Funbase on Gunthorpe Road, was due to close. Local parents in Gunthorpe, who used the after school and holidays club, discovered that it was set to close after it was given ‘inadequate’ ratings in an Ofsted inspection. Instead of simply accepting this news, several leading lights took up the campaign, held meetings, door knocked and collected 1000 signatures, calling for action from the City Council, to ensure that the service was maintained. Cross ward concern for planned housing development on #GunthorpeRoad

Lib Dem ward councillor for both Walton and Werrington South, have been contacted about a planning application for several new houses to be built on a small piece of overgrown land at the bottom end of Gunthorpe Road, near the Brookside Methodist Church. LATEST North East Urban Safer, Stronger Neighbourhoods meeting @PboroCops

The latest North East Urban Safer, Stronger Neighbourhoods meeting took place on the 8th July, and was held at Paston Ridings Primary School. The meeting was poorly attended, with just 7 local residents in attendance, from an area population in excess of 24,000, which equates to just 0.02% of local residents! It was also noted that out of a possible 11 City Councillors covering Gunthorpe, Paston, Werrington and Walton, just 3 city councillors attended. Several issues were discussed, including: Anti-social behaviour at the Werrington skate park Anti-social behaviour at Werrington Centre Problems with motor cycles driving on footpaths Graffiti increase in and around Werrington Meadow Liberal Democrat city councillor for[…]

Surgery change for South Werrington and North Gunthorpe ward

The local Liberal Democrat councillors Darren Fower and Julia Davidson who represent the South Werrington and North Gunthorpe electoral ward, have always held regular ‘ward surgeries’ at which you can come along for a chat about any local issues. No appointment is needed – just turn up! In the past, surgeries have always been held on Friday evenings. Now the ’mid month’ surgery has been moved to Saturday mornings in a bid to make it even more convenient for residents. Therefore from now on the surgey will take place between 9:00am to 10:00 am, every third Saturday each month at Brookside Methodist Church, Gunthorpe Road. PLUS! You can always contact Darren via[…]
