Report a faulty light, get a year FREE of Council Tax?

After reporting further faulty lights in and around the city, local Lib Dem councillor, Darren Fower, says he thinks it’s time the Council looked at incentivising local citizens to report such matters, by using more contemporary forms than providing a telephone number to call? Commenting, Darren said: “We’ve got apps and smart phones almost everywhere we look these days, so why not make use of them? “Reporting a faulty street light, not only helps the contractors save time and therefore money, it also prevents the wasting of electricity, which is always a good thing. “I cannot see any reason why each and every street light should not have a QR[…]

More done in last 5 than previous 40 years! Claims Cereste!

Did you get to hear the interview with Cllr Marco Cereste on BBC Radio Cambs directly after the 2014 local election results? It was certainly interesting, as he admitted to speaking with certain “other” councillors about enabling him to maintain his position as leader of the City Council – but which opposition councillors? – CERTAINLY none of the Lib Dems! He also went on to make one of his classic claims, stating “Me, as leader of the Council, have done more in the last 5 years in our city then has happened in the last 40 years in our city!” – Doesn’t say much for the 5+ years prior to his[…]

Why are local Lib Dems not backing move to remove Marco?

Newly–Elected Leader of Peterborough Liberal Democrats, Cllr Nick Sandford explains: “A lot has been made of the fact that the Conservatives are no longer in majority control of Peterborough City Council. That needs to be reflected in the governance structures which the Council adopts. As Lib Dems have long argued we need a more consensual approach and one in which decisions are made in public and can be challenged at the time they are made and not weeks later. That necessitates in our view the scrapping of the current Leader and Cabinet model and replacement of it with a system of decision making committees. “The Localism Act passed by the Coalition Government gives us that choice and it is one which[…]

A message from Peterborough’s @LibDems @Andrew_Duff_MEP

Writing, Andrew Duff said: “There are just days to go until polling day and hundreds of volunteers across the East of England have been working hard by delivering leaflets, knocking on doors, and making phone calls. Thank you for your support in this election. “As you know, Liberal Democrat MEPs are the only group working to build a stronger economy in a fairer society by being IN Europe. “Liberal Democrat MEPs have advocated for cutting mobile roaming fees, acting on climate change, and strengthening and reforming the European Arrest Warrant. We are a positive force in the European Union. “I am immensely proud of the work I have done in[…]

Did local LIB DEMS support “massive” pay rises for senior City Council management??? @ClrNickSandford

As reported in the local media, a “…decision to award five-figure salary rises to some of Peterborough City Council’s top earners – as they slash budgets and cut back services – has come under fire.” Speaking to the Telegraph, LIB DEM group Leader on the City Council, Cllr Nick Sandford, said: “I am appalled by this. It sends out completely the wrong message about where the council’s priorities are, as they make cuts to a number of services, and other council employees are only getting a one per cent pay increase.” Listen to Nick Sandford’s interview on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire below! listen to ‘Cllr Nick Sandford talks about Council Officer[…]

We’d like to congratulate local LIB DEMS who attended this years Liberal Democrat Spring Conference, and especially local councillor, Darren Fower, who collected the award for Best Social Media of the Year – Winner 2014, in York! We were the first political party in Peterborough to create a dedicated website, we were the first political party to have a Facebook page, Twitter account, YouTube channel, Pinterest account, presence on LinkedIn etc. I’ve also developed several successful on-line campaigns and sign up forms that have helped enable hundreds of local people[…]

Local Lib Dems are ONLY party campaigning to keep Britain IN Europe! @OP_Peterborough #WhyIamIN

Peterborough Liberal Democrats WILL be the ONLY party during this year’s May elections fighting for thousands of local jobs in the area that benefit from being part of EU and ensuring the millions of pounds given to the city continues, to benefit Peterborough people! Commenting, local LIB DEM councillor Darren Fower said: “The warning is simple! If UKIP wins and takes us out of Europe, it would wreck the recovery and risk 3 million British jobs! “The local Conservatives, despite removing the EU flag from the Council chamber a couple of years ago are happy to receive the millions of pounds they get to help them provide services and schemes[…]

6,200 Peterborough families WILL benefit from new @LibDems childcare package plans!

A major new childcare package to help thousands of Peterborough parents with the cost of living and give children the best possible start in life was unveiled by Liberal Democrat leader, Nick Clegg. The new tax-free childcare scheme, announced by the Liberal Democrats last year, will be increased from £1,200 to £2,000 per child and the scheme will be brought forward to Autumn 2015. This means that working parents earning at least £50 per week, will get 20% off the cost of childcare up to a limit of £10,000 for every child under the age of 12. Those working part-time, on maternity leave or starting their own business will also be[…]

Lib Dem councillors oppose Tory controlled Council’s budget plans!

At the latest budget meeting at the Town Hall, Lib Dem council group leader, Nick Sandford,  said his party have consistently opposed the Tory plans to close (or “redesignate”) children’s centres. Lib Dems have  consistently supported moves to review the policy and look at alternatives. “We think this Tory policy shows they have the wrong priorities and are making the wrong choices,” Nick said.  “They would rather handover £2.2 million to their contractor Amey for grass and tree cutting, rather than spend half of that on keeping children’s centres open.  We are paying over £100,000 a year to some senior officers and big special responsibility payments to cabinet members but they[…]
