“We Feel Trapped In Our Own Homes” Says Peterborough Resident

Residents of Cleveland Court and The Pentlands Residents are seeing significant issues during school times; along with many other residents in Gunthorpe/Werrington and Peterborough. As you all probably already know, I have been working closely with the Local Primary Schools to try and help tackle/ease the ongoing parking issues we have during Pickup and Drop Off times. After various Facebook Posts and Blog Posts (Click to Remind Yourself) I had been contacted by various residents of both of these streets and many others . The Residents are sadly being made to feel ‘Trapped’ in their own homes and fear for their safety ( in the case of an emergency) during[…]

Parking Safety in Gunthorpe- Update

Norwood and Gunthorpe Primary School Recap: You may have seen my many recent Facebook posts and blog posts regarding Gunthorpe Primary School, Norwood Primary School and Welbourne Primary School. I started working with all three of these primary schools before Christmas; after I was contacted by many concerned parents/carers and residents. Concerns were raised over many factors but primarily and most importantly the SAFETY of the CHILDREN.  (To update yourself click here) In one of my previous Blog Posts you may have seen that PCC had agreed to undertake assessments to assess whether further parking restrictions were needed and would be beneficial in the streets surrounding all three of the Primary[…]

Vandalism in Peterborough

You may have seen Peterborough Today’s recent articles regarding the extreme Vandalism at Ferry Meadows.  Sadly over the past few days there has been vandalism to the Children’s Play Areas, Trees and Memorial Benches at Ferry Meadows in Peterborough. The Vandals carried this during the evening and it has been reported whomever carried this out; did so with a saw. It deeply saddens me that such thing is happening in Peterborough. I’m sure that many Peterborians have visited Ferry Meadows and probably have many happy childhood memories there. I can speak for myself, my friends and my family when I say I do. It is absolutely appalling that anyone could deem[…]

A letter from Tim Farron following the news of Jo Cox’s tragic death

This morning with my kids all I could think about was the family who’ve woken up with their lives changed forever. Yesterday a mum, who left home to do her job to serve her constituents, was cruelly and brutally taken from them. Her husband and their children are in my thoughts and prayers. When something terrible happens, I feel it. I am not one of those who shies away from emotion. And I, like so many others, am really feeling it today. In Orlando, when all those people were massacred for simply being themselves, the hurt was overwhelming. And here in Britain, we have seen terror on our streets and[…]

Liberal Democrat barn dance

Peterborough Lib Dems going to a dance

Peterborough Liberal Democrats are holding a fund-raising barn dance on Friday 22 January in St Marks Church Hall, Lincoln Road, Peterborough. The event starts at 7:30 pm and the ticket price of £12 (£10 each for two or more) includes a fish and chip supper. Music will be provided by local band Kelly’s Eye. It is the second time the party locally has organised such a dance. Campaigns chairman Mike Holland said: “We had a barn dance a couple of years ago and although some of us – like me – with ‘two left feet’ were a bit dubious it turned out to be a great evening. So now we’ve[…]

LIB DEMS on Tory apprentice plans

Liberal Democrat General Election campaign spokesperson Lord Scriven said: “In Government Vince Cable and the Liberal Democrats have helped businesses create more than two million apprentices and in the next parliament we will go even further. “Left to their own devices the Tories would pay for extra apprenticeships through cuts to housing benefit that would hit 24,000 families with children. “The Tories are reverting to type by giving with one hand and taking away with the other. Only the Liberal Democrats will deliver a stronger economy and fairer society, delivering opportunity for everyone.” The Conservatives plan to pay for extra apprenticeships in part by abolishing housing benefit for out of[…]

Budget 2015 packed with Liberal Democrat policies

This Budget is packed full of policies that deliver Liberal Democrat priorities: Help for lower and middle income earners by increasing the Personal Allowance by further £200 so that from April 2016 the tax threshold increases to £10,800 and from April 2017 to £11,000. By 2017/2018, 27.2 million workers will have benefited from increases in the personal allowance and we will have lifted over 3.7 million out of income tax altogether. Help for children with mental health problems by providing £1.25bn of new funding over the next five years to treat 110,000 more children with mental health issues, and provide rapid access to treatment for new mothers. Help for motorists[…]

Bonus for buses at Council budget meeting

New bus services could be running in Peterborough as early as October, following a successful budget amendment moved by Lib Dem Councillors on Peterborough City Council, at the latest budget meeting of Full Council. A cross party working group is to be set up to look at areas of the city which don’t have adequate bus services, following a cut in bus subsidy by over 50% by the Tory administration two years ago. If the working group’s recommendations are agreed, up to £75,000 could be allocated from council contingency reserves to pay for the new services. Also in the budget, Lib Dem intervention helped to stop a barmy proposal by[…]
