Parking Safety in Gunthorpe- Update

Norwood and Gunthorpe Primary School Recap: You may have seen my many recent Facebook posts and blog posts regarding Gunthorpe Primary School, Norwood Primary School and Welbourne Primary School. I started working with all three of these primary schools before Christmas; after I was contacted by many concerned parents/carers and residents. Concerns were raised over many factors but primarily and most importantly the SAFETY of the CHILDREN.  (To update yourself click here) In one of my previous Blog Posts you may have seen that PCC had agreed to undertake assessments to assess whether further parking restrictions were needed and would be beneficial in the streets surrounding all three of the Primary[…]

Vandalism in Peterborough

You may have seen Peterborough Today’s recent articles regarding the extreme Vandalism at Ferry Meadows.  Sadly over the past few days there has been vandalism to the Children’s Play Areas, Trees and Memorial Benches at Ferry Meadows in Peterborough. The Vandals carried this during the evening and it has been reported whomever carried this out; did so with a saw. It deeply saddens me that such thing is happening in Peterborough. I’m sure that many Peterborians have visited Ferry Meadows and probably have many happy childhood memories there. I can speak for myself, my friends and my family when I say I do. It is absolutely appalling that anyone could deem[…]

Where do we stand when it comes to education?

People often ask us what we would do differently if Liberal Democrats were running the city council, here we turn our attention in this issue to education. So, what would we do? We would put more investment into education and make better use of the pupil premium – government cash which allows schools additional money for disadvantaged pupils. We would aim to raise ‘aspirations’ by showing the benefits of education. For example, we would invest in a major ‘careers fair’ to show that good, well-paid jobs are available to pupils from any background who work hard at school. We would make better use of buildings that the council already owns which could be used for educational purposes – such as the Central[…]

Improving where we live…….

We are often critical of the Tory council and residents sometimes ask what the Lib Dems would do differently if we were running the city council. So what would we do? We would introduce more ‘community ownership’, for example helping local groups to adopt the bowling greens which the council last year threatened to close. We would devolve power to local communities to do things like introduce 20 mph speed limits, fine people who park on grass verges (and plant trees to stop cars getting onto verges in the first place) and clear rubbish from the streets. We would auction licences for alcohol stores and houses where rooms are let to different individuals, instead of just giving the licences[…]

Gunthorpe Liberal Democrats have a ‘winning team’

The Peterborough Liberal Democrats believe they have a ‘winning team’ fighting the local elections taking place in areas of Werrington and Gunthorpe. In the new ward that is officially be known as ‘Gunthorpe’ the three council seats will be contested by existing councillors Darren Fower and Julia Davidson together with FOCUS co-ordinator Andrew Bond. Local resident and Liberal Democrat FOCUS Deliverer, Mike Holland said: “We have picked a winning team that has already established an excellent reputation with local people. Darren and Julia are long-standing councillors who have proved that they are effective campaigners on behalf of the area and its residents. “Andrew has been working, often ‘behind the scenes’, to support them and all three will[…]

Hundreds of #Peterborough residents call for Council to #ScrapTheMayorsCar

Just in case anyone had forgotten, allow me to remind you what the Conservatives nationally and locallyhave been saying for several months now, after each and every austerity action, that “we are all in this together!” But, are we really? You can add YOUR support to the on-line campaign by VISITING HERE! The Tories at the Town Hall have recently awarded themselves a brand new jag for their ex-Leader and now Mayor, Cllr John Peach. It’s costing thousands of pounds a year to have (not including petrol or staff time), but luckily, the local Conservatives do not have to pay for it, thankfully that’s all covered for by the goodo[…]

£7.6 million to be raised by Council renting out the Town Hall and Bayard Place

In case you’ve missed the news in the Peterborough Telegraph, about Tory plans to rent out Bayard Place and parts of the Town Hall, here’s some of the details for you! Why do they want to do this? Well, certain leading Tories at the Town Hall have their their eye on a fancy new set of offices at the Fletton Quays and so they need to justify the move, and the latest is that by renting out the Town Hall and Bayard Place,  could raise £7.6 million over the “coming years.” Personally,I’d like to sell the Town Hall outright, as I’m a much bigger fan of services and jobs, than[…]

Cllr Darren Fower and local residents

Cllr Fower’s Facebook page – “… growing nicely!”

Peterborough Liberal Democrat’s parliamentary candidate for the 2015 General Election, Darren Fower, is inviting local residents who use Facebook, to LIKE his page and leave a comment! Darren’s page – facebook.com/CllrDarrenFower – already has nearly 1500 LIKES and has plenty of videos and images for fans to enjoy. Commenting, Darren said: “The page has been growing nicely and was originally aimed just at residents in South Werrington and North Gunthorpe. But with so many other people throughout the city wanting to have their say on a variety of issues and concerns, I’m now getting NEW likes from people around the whole of Peterborough. “The page is a great place for[…]
