Vandalism in Peterborough

You may have seen Peterborough Today’s recent articles regarding the extreme Vandalism at Ferry Meadows.  Sadly over the past few days there has been vandalism to the Children’s Play Areas, Trees and Memorial Benches at Ferry Meadows in Peterborough. The Vandals carried this during the evening and it has been reported whomever carried this out; did so with a saw. It deeply saddens me that such thing is happening in Peterborough. I’m sure that many Peterborians have visited Ferry Meadows and probably have many happy childhood memories there. I can speak for myself, my friends and my family when I say I do. It is absolutely appalling that anyone could deem[…]

SAFER PARKING UPDATE (GUNTHORPE)

Do you live in Gunthorpe? Does your Child or a Family Member attend NORWOOD PRIMARY SCHOOL,GUNTHORPE PRIMARY SCHOOL or WELBOURNE PRIMARY SCHOOL? You may have seen my previous facebook posts regarding the work I have been doing with the LOCAL Primary Schools. If you haven’t DON’T PANIC! You can update yourself by clicking the link above…or reading my previous blog posts. Since my last post there has been many updates in regards to all THREE of the Schools. Firstly Norwood… Norwood is the last of the three schools to be provided with the safer parking banner after my request. The reason for this is up until the last Full Council Meeting[…]

Curbing Graffiti Issues

Graffiti is an issue City Wide but it is becoming a BIG ISSUE in our ward (Gunthorpe). Most of the electric boxes now have Graffiti.. Most of the Graffiti is untasteful and includes the use of Crude language. Not only does this look unappealing; it’s terrible that everyone (especially Children) are having to be exposed to that kind of language. This is Vandalism…not ART. Although I have reported every case I have come across to Peterborough City Council  and they are removing what they can… it is SADLY never too long before the Graffiti reappears. I have since been approached by individuals in our Local Community who have suggested that[…]

9,073 jobs in Peterborough reliant on membership to EU #StrongerIn

Did you read the YouGov poll published recently claiming Peterborough was the 2nd most Eurosceptic place in the country? What utter tosh! We are a city that celebrates our diversity, through daily neighbourly contact to annual festivals in the city centre! All this poll was doing, was playing up to the image our city has to those who don’t live here! And here’s why: First and foremost, YouGov only asked 207 people! That equates to 0.13% of the city’s population. Why was Peterborough seperated out from the rest of Cambridgeshire? Why wasn’t Cambridge seperated out? If around 200 local people’s opinion now equals the truth, then it must be time[…]

Next @ATHENECOMMS debate – future of the NHS

With the general election taking place in May, people are beginning to weigh up all the options for where their vote will go. A BBC/Populus poll has recently suggested the NHS is the most important issue to be covered by the news ahead of the election. Never a company to sit on the sidelines, Athene Communications has organised a debate event (March 24) to discuss the controversial issue of the future of the NHS. This follows previous successful debates on press freedom (at the time of the Leveson Inquiry) and on Peterborough’s environmental aspirations in a time of austerity. The debate will take place on Tuesday 24th March at the[…]

Good news on the Council budget RE: local environment

Good news on the Council budget! Following pressure from Lib Dems and several environmental groups, the Council cabinet have dropped their proposal to remove over a fifth of all the shrubs and hedgerows in Peterborough. Instead an alternative saving will be made by the Council contractor Amey adopting revised landscape management regimes, with reduced grass cutting, less usage of herbicide and a more focussed approach to shrub management. Let us know your thoughts plz by leaving a comment below!
